New git.nrw Coffee events - Save the date

The virtual git.nrw coffee events will continue.

Following the great interest shown in the first three events, here are the dates for the next ones:

git.nrw User Meeting - new date

The user meeting is a more formal discussion at which specific topics are scheduled and discussed. During the meeting, the project team shares detailed information on the progress of the work packages, announces updates, and gathers feedback from users.

The next user group meeting is scheduled for 08 May 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants are asked to sign up by 06 May, 2026 in the list . The event will take place virtually via Zoom .

git.nrw Coffee vs. User Meetings – Key Differences

The git.nrw project team has organised various events to give users the opportunity to learn about the project and/or get involved. So, which event is best suited to which purpose?

git.nrw Coffee

A virtual coffee session is being organised so that interested parties and users can discuss the project in a relaxed setting. Here, you can ask questions, share experiences and feedback with the team or other users, or exchange further information about the project. The project regularly hosts this coffee session to give users and interested parties a relaxed opportunity to get to know one another. During these sessions, participants can ask questions, share experiences and feedback with the project team or other attendees, and exchange further information about the project. There is no set agenda for the session, which is shaped by the participants.

The next upcoming dates are:

17 April 2026 – 10:00–11:00 a.m.
15 May 2026 – 10:00–11:00 a.m.

Further sessions are already being planned and will be published in our community chat or in our git.nrw news in due course.

The ability to invite git.nrw guests opens up new perspectives for collaboration:

Extended collaboration: External parties, cooperation partners, and individuals outside of a DH.NRW university can now be invited to work together on projects.
Flexibility: git.nrw guests can be granted specific access to certain projects.
Easy administration: Access rights for git.nrw guests can be managed easily and as usual.

Incident: gitlab.git.nrw outage

On January 16, 2026, gitlab.git.nrw was unavailable from approximately 13:30 to 15:00 CEST. The problem was resolved.

git.nrw at Love Data Week – Collaborate, Version, and Publish Workshop on 11 February at 3:30 p.m.

The git.nrw team will present a new workshop as part of the Love Data Week 2026. The workshop “git.nrw – Collaborate, Version, and Publish” will take place on February 11, 2026.

git.nrw – our pilot project for NRW – combines version control, project management and CI/CD pipelines in a central GitLab instance. Participants will learn how to collaborate effectively, manage projects, automate workflows, and assign DOIs to their research via Zenodo.

Git und GitLab course December 4th + 5th2025

Context
The Friendly Users phase shows strong early adoption—from initial projects to a growing group structure. We expect further growth later today.

Incident: gitlab.git.nrw outage

During the night of May 9, 2025, gitlab.git.nrw was unavailable from approximately 01:30 to 07:15 CEST.

As a follow‑up effect of the Wednesday incident (May 7, 2025), database replication had silently stopped. Overnight, the remaining database node’s disk filled up with WAL transaction logs, which took the service down.

Disk capacity was increased and replication restored; the service has been fully available again since 07:15. As we are still in pilot, we continue to harden the platform and improve monitoring.

Incident: gitlab.git.nrw outage

On May 7, 2025, gitlab.git.nrw was unavailable from approximately 14:30 to 18:00 CEST.

Multiple disk failures in the VSAN cluster in Münster caused several VMs to switch to read‑only filesystems. Two of the three database nodes were affected at the same time, which stopped GitLab.

After stabilizing the VSAN cluster and restoring writable filesystems, the service has been fully available again since 18:00. As we are still in pilot, we continue to harden the platform and closely monitor the systems.
