In order to enable users to migrate groups and projects from another GitLab to git.nrw, administrators need to adjust settings on their appropriate GitLab services. It is also recommended to use the same GitLab version as git.nrw, due to feature and database compatibility.

  1. Enable Direct-Transfer Migration Setting
    • Go to Admin > Settings > General.
    • Enable: “Allow migrating GitLab groups and projects by direct transfer”.
  2. Firewall Settings
    • Allow connections between your GitLab instance and git.nrw via HTTPS.
  3. Version Compatibility
    • Ensure your GitLab version is close to git.nrw.
    • Check versions at: gitlab.git.nrw/help (You need to login to see the version on the top).
  4. Object Storage
    • If using Object Storage (artifacts, LFS, etc.), enable proxy-download .
