This is a common use case and best documented by the GitLab team itself. This guide will show the direct transfer between two GitLab instances and how to effectively migrate your whole group with projects.
Please keep in mind that:
- Both GitLab instances need to public facing (no VPN access only)
- Placeholder users will be created in the Top-Level group and not in sub-groups, the mapping must be done by the Top-Level group owner
